V is for Volunteer

V is for Volunteer

Remember that episode of Friends where Phoebe hated PBS?

Joey argued that no good deed could be considered truly selfless since you get the benefit of feeling good about your actions.

For once, I see some logic in Joey's thought process. And I agree with him.

Volunteer.

You'll feel better.

Helping someone else is an instant pick-me-up.

If you want to spend time volunteering with an organization you support, that's a dedicated and structured approach to helping.

However, I don't think you have to be that focused or scheduled with your volunteer ambitions.

Help out a friend who's struggling with a project.

Give your time to someone you care about to make their life a little easier.

Maybe you have an area of expertise that would benefit your friends or their family.

I've edited and revised countless documents for friends just because they know that when I'm focused, I'm quite the grammar nerd who will polish their writing to near perfection.

Every time I help a friend with their writing, I always feel good after. Life gets even better when my input helps people move forward with their lives.

Grow your karma.

Volunteer.
